Turning 5 with a Barbie/Super Hero Party

One very fine day, months ago, Ethan was having a conversation with his very good friend Maxie about their birthdays and what kind of party they wanted. (For those who don't realize, Ethan and Maxie are only a day apart. Ethan's birthday is on June 2nd and Maxie's is on June 3rd. Last year they had a joint party, but this year we were going to try to do seperate ones.) So in this conversation Maxie told Ethan all about the Barbie party she was having and the Barbie cake she had already picked out. Apparantly Ethan must have been caught up in all of the excitement because he decided he wanted a Barbie party also and they were going to have it together. No matter what I tried I could not convince him otherwise, and believe me I tried everything. The thought of sending out Barbie invitations to Ethan's friends was a little mortifying for me. I kept wondering where I had gone wrong. Well, then an angel (Maxie's mom) came up with a brilliant plan. She suggested we do a half Barbie, half super hero party. At first Ethan was not going for it, but when we mentioned that everyone could have their own capes, he reluctantly came on board.

So that is how the Barbie/Super hero party came about and here are some pictures from the great event.

Doesn't Ethan look thrilled? He really did enjoy himself, but from these pictures you wouldn't know it.

Yes, that is a pink flower pinata and yes, Ethan picked it out. I tried to get him to choose the spiderman one, but he wanted the flower.

Another disclaimer: He did pick out his own outfit too. He loves his soccer socks even though it was 100 degrees and they are the thickest socks I have ever seen.

Here is the infamous Barbie cake that started the whole Barbie party.

We finally get to see the smile I love. All it took was a piece of cake.

The king and queen waiting for their presents.
